Girls Varsity Golf · Girls Golf Wins Again, Michelle Cao Goes Low

The Girls Varsity Golf Team continued its excellent play this season in winning a 9-Hole Match in dominant fashion against North Atlanta at Bobby Jones Golf Course. In fairness to North Atlanta, their team was competing without two of their better players. In fairness to Northview, on this day it may not have mattered who the Lady Titans competed against, as the team shot a season low 9-Hole Match score of 112, for a team total of just 4 over par!

Northview senior, Michelle Cao, came out of the gates looking to go low, and did just that. After opening with two quick birdies, and barely missing a third in a row, Michelle then drove the green on the 4th hole, a par 4, and promptly drained the putt for eagle! Birdie, birdie, par, eagle – almost certainly the first time in the history of Northview’s Golf Program such a feat has been accomplished! After having her fill, Michelle coasted in for a 3-under par round of 33, which is the lowest 9-hole score of the season for the Lady Titans. Well done, Michelle!

Erica Scutt is the Lady Titans longest player, a talent she demonstrated when subbing last week for a Boys Golf Match where, playing from the blue tees with the Boys, she consistently outdistanced her male competitors. Erica also tied for low score in the Boys Match for good measure. Erica’s power was on display again in the Match with North Atlanta, where she actually drove the ball over the green on two of the early par 4 holes. After adjusting to the firmer conditions, Erica started pillaging right alongside her teammate, knocking in three birdies on route to an even-par round of 36.

In the second group, Lady Titans, Aya Kakizaki (43) and Lauren Siegel (44) were paired together for the second time this season, and both played solid rounds, actually better than their scores would indicate. With the Match well in-hand, the two turned their attention to besting each other, but in keeping with the team’s spirit, cheered and supported each other to the last. After shaking hands with their competitors, all four Lady Titans gathered in a group hug on the 9th green in mutual congratulations.

Michelle, Erica, Aya and Lauren achieved a new season low for a four-ball aggregate Match score of 156. While the four-ball total is not counted in determining Match outcomes (only low 3 of 4 scores are used), Coach Silver points to this number as an indication that the Girls Golf Team appears to be getting even better as they prepare to defend their title at the Area Tournament on May 1.

But first, the Lady Titans have a little unfinished business to tend to as they wrap up the 9-Hole Match part of their season with a rematch against rival Johns Creek. That match will be held on April 24 at St. Ives Country Club. Then, it’s onto the Area Tournament at Heron Bay Golf Club in Locust Grove, Georgia.

Good luck, Ladies Titans!!!
