The Girls Varsity Golf Team took a road trip south on Tuesday, and came home with more champions hardware, winning the West Georgia Girls Classic at The Fields Golf Club in LaGrange. This marked the first year Northview traveled to compete in this particular tournament, but they already have plans to defend their title next year.
The day began with an ominous forecast and the threat of thunderstorms. For a while, it looked like the tournament might be cancelled before the team even loaded up the minivan. As it turned out, the day was quite nice, nearly rain-free, and the sun even shined for a while; instead, it was the Lady Titans who brought the storm, posting a team total of 231 which was 26-strokes clear of the field!
Leading the Titans was sophomore Erica Scutt with a sparkling round of 1-under par 70 which featured four birdies and some superb bunker play. “I just kept telling myself ‘stay present…stay present’ and I shot under par.” This marked the second time in Erica’s last three tournaments that she finished runner-up in the individual competition.
Also contributing to the team’s winning formula was Michelle Cao (79), Aya Kakizaki (82), and Lauren Siegel, which is the same line-up Coach Silver used in the team’s first tournament in early March. That event concluded with a 3-strokes margin of victory for the Lady Titans. This time the margin was 26-strokes. So, it seems the team is getting better as the days are getting longer.
The Girls Varsity Golf Team will be taking a week off from competition to prepare for a pair of season-ending 9-hole matches, including a rematch with rival Johns Creek.
Congratulations and keep up the great play, Lady Titans!
