The Girls Varsity Golf Team wrapped up its regular season last week in unfamiliar territory, with a loss.  The Lady Titans fell to Johns Creek at St. Ives Country Club 114-111.  The two teams had tied in a match earlier this season at Country Club of the South when an unfortunate rules violation disqualified one of Johns Creek’s score.  The final match was the first loss for the Girls Golf Team in a 9-Hole Match this year, but it wasn’t for lack of quality play.

Sophomore Erica Scutt led the Titans with a round of 37, followed by Michelle Cao (38), Aya Kakizaki (39), and Lauren Siegel (41).  This type of scoring would win most matches against other schools in the area, but Johns Creek fields one of the better 6A teams in the state; meaning, Northview and Johns Creek are destined to battle it out again at the Area Tournament at Heron Bay Golf Club, in Locust Grove, on May 1.

Northview is the defending Area Tournament Champion.  Runner-up last year at Area?  You guessed it – Johns Creek.  The top teams from Area will move onto the State Championship at Cobblestone Golf Club on May 20-21. Last year at State, it was Northview’s Lady Titans who came from behind to beat Johns Creek by two strokes. “After last year, I’m sure Johns Creek really wants to win Area and State,” said Coach Silver. “Our focus will continue to be on preparation.”

The two teams are evenly matched again this year despite Northview losing two seniors from last year’s team, and Johns Creek returning with all four of its top players.  The returning players from both teams know one another and have competed against each other in tournaments outside the high school golf arena. It looks like they will get a couple more chances in the next three weeks.

Good luck at Area, Lady Titans!
