The Northview Lady Titans run in the State Tournament came to an end last Saturday vs. Harrison in the GHSA Class AAAAAA Final Four. Even with the result, the season was a tremendous success for the program.
Coming into the season, the best Northview had even accomplished in Girls Basketball was a Sweet 16 run in 2011. That team, lead by Sydney Wallace, also had a school record 18 wins.
The 2016-17 squad crushed many of the school records. Here a few:
- Most Wins – 28
- 1st Region Championship
- Deepest Run – Final Four
- No. 1 State Ranking in AJC
- Top 300 Ranking Nationally
- Longest Winning Streak – 16
- Most Points in a Game – 87
- Most Rebounds in a Season by a player – 292 (Ashlee Austin)
- Most Blocks in a Season by a player – 146 (Shannon Titus)
The Lady Titans were led by senior Shannon Titus, but there are a host of young players returning. The team will bring back four starters next year and are poised for another deep run.
“This year proved that we have turned the corner,” Head coach Chris Yarbrough said. “It’s been a wonderful season, and I’m really excited about the future of this team.”
The Lady Titans will have their end of the year banquet on Tuesday, March 21st.
“It gives us one last time to celebrate this season,” Yarbrough said. “This is a memory these girls never forget, and I couldn’t have been more proud of them.”
The Lady Titans will start summer workouts in June.
